My first career was as a Primary School teacher.
Being organised was so important in teaching. I needed to be organised not only with my planning, marking and assessments but I also needed to have an organised classroom that would enable the children in the class to access resources and be a nice, tidy, ordered environment for them to learn in.
My headteacher used to ask me to teach in a different classroom every year - I'm sure it was because they knew I would spend my summer holidays clearing out those cupboards that hadn't been touched in years and tidying, sorting and labelling everything within an inch of its life!
With so much to juggle as a full-time, busy teacher and mum to three children I had to be organised professionally and personally and winning at life 24/7.
I started The Orchid Organising Company because so many people would say to me 'You are so organised' or 'Your house is so tidy!' or 'Where is all your 'stuff'?'.
I am passionate about helping people get organised, stay organised and live their life to the full. No one likes to drop balls due to disorganisation or be unable to find an email or item because their inbox or house is so cluttered. Being organised can change your life. Let me show you how!
Having an orderly, clutter-free home is good for our mental health! When working from home if my desk is messy I simply can't think straight. We are most productive if we are in a calm, orderly space. It clears space in our minds to be the best we can be.
Our homes should be reflections of who we are. They should tell a story about our lives and personalities. If a house is full of too much stuff a person's story and personality doesn't have the room it needs to shine through and it doesn't feel homely at all.
Marie Kondo in her book 'The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up' talks about our possessions sparking joy. Why do we keep things that don't bring us joy in our homes? Life is too short to spend time surrounded by things that don't spark that joy-perhaps because they are old, broken or we simply don't like them.
I am a verified member of APDO, the UK's membership association for decluttering and organising professionals.
